Akiba Digital joins Google’s $50 million investment

Akiba Digital, a FinTech that provides financial intelligence solutions, is proud to be one of the 50 startups that have been selected by Google to take part in the Google for Startups Africa program.

Google has committed to investing $50 million in Africa’s early and growth-stage startups through their Africa Investment Fund. This opportunity provides these businesses with access to Google's employees, their network, and technologies, to assist them in building meaningful products which will have a positive impact on business and digital transformation growth.

“This Google investment serves as great validation for the African startup ecosystem that is just at its infancy of disruption and, I believe it will encourage many more players, especially African institutions, to invest in this booming ecosystem. For an early-stage company like Akiba Digital, which leverages alternative data and insights to deliver better financial access to small businesses and the unscorable society, having one of the world’s leading data companies guide us through our growth phase gives us the confidence we needed to break into the market.” said Tebogo Mokwena, CEO and Co-founder. “We’ve always earmarked Google as one of the possible exit options for Akiba and it certainly serves as good validation having Google invest in helping us take our growth to the next level.”

“We are very excited about this opportunity to be a part of the Google for Startups program. We know it will allow us to deliver the best digital campaigns and strategies on which we’ll build upon in the business. Together with the Google team, we plan on unlocking the full potential of Akiba Digital.” said Kamogelo Kekana, CCO and Co-founder.

Google’s investment will enable Akiba Digital to grow its impact on scaling financing options for small and medium-sized (SMEs) in South Africa and the continent through, Insyts.ai (a platform which allows SMEs in need of funding to seamlessly apply online for financing, and monitor their financial health, all in one). With this platform, the company aims to build an inclusive financial ecosystem for SMEs throughout the African continent, in their mission to build a "Google for financial insights".

As a commitment to helping SMEs, Akiba Digital is currently running a referral campaign where business owners can register their business on Insyts.ai, and using their Referral code, refer five or more other business owners looking for funding. The campaign has been running for the past 2 months, and winners have received cash rewards for participating.
